If "dog and pony show" is too cumbersome a phrase, how about "showcase" or "showoff"?

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-974773076690597683.post-51422265673943017902015-09-08T20:07:24.165-04:002015-09-08T20:07:24.165-04:00I did see film The Proud Valley, not often shown, b...I did see film The Proud Valley, not often shown, but it was on both TCM and on the City university channel with commentary in a series they call City Cinemateque with a film professor introducing the movies.
Very interesting, with Robeson joining the miners' choir.

Re labor issue coverage,i read since Steven Greenhouse took a buyout from the NYT, the only main media labor columnist is in the WSJ. I haven't looked into this---is that possible?
The Times needs a regular columnist focused on the interests of salaried people--whether you call it 'labor' or not....on the op page, not Business--and with comments. "Inst...Karen, just on your krugman comment---

"Instead of arguing over which GOP plutocratic candidate can best screw us, let's start making some noise about what really works for the economy."

Yes, a nobel economist interested in inequality could discuss that instead of the latest from DT and Jeb. He is doing his derp and zombie Gop number yet again, and not discussing constructive proposals. That might bring him too near Sanders' ideas. Don't go there? He'd hate to have to admit that he might agree with Bernie.

If the Dems and Krugman would focus on positive proposals to directly increase employment and reduce economic distress of average people, they would set a standard, and the Gop would have to answer to it. The Gop inadequacies would show up vividly.

Instead the Dems and PK let the Gop set the standard, and then argue against it defensively. This is exactly how the country has turned rightward over decades, pulled by the Gop, even if the Dems didn’t intend it. Let’s outline the advantages of a huge national infrastructure program, and force the Gop to react.

Meredith NYCnoreply@blogger.com
