Obama To Go Pure Grassroots, Will Accept NO Corporate $$$!!!

I had to rub my eyes this morning staring at Obama Campaign Manager Jim Messina's overnight email.  In a surprise stealth move, he announced the campaign is going purely grass roots this time.  Here it is, in bold print (his)--

This campaign isn't funded by lobbyists or corporate interests. We rely on donations from people like you. Please donate $15 today!

Uncork the champagne and blow up the balloons! (bold print mine).  Obama has seen the light.  He will not be accepting any dirty money from Goldman Sachs, no filthy lucre from G.E., no slimy checks from Big Pharma as payback for that back room deal that took the Public Option off the table.  He has listened to We the People at long last!  We held his feet to the fire about his big sell-out to the Oligarchy and he hopped up and down with the pain of our wrath. He will not let 2012 become the agony of defeat. He became humbled, and he had an epiphany.  Or FDR paid him a midnight visit in the Lincoln Bedroom.  I don't know and it doesn't really matter.  He has changed, transformed and become a card-carrying member of We are the Ones We Can Believe In!

Huh?  What was that you said?  Bait and switch?  There are TWO Obama re-election campaigns?  One for the little people, called MyBarackObama.com?  And the other one that really means something, where the President travels around and charges $50,000 a plate to do his charm offensive schtick and glad-hand the wealthy? Like the trip to Austin, TX last week where regular voters got barely a wave and a nod as he breezed into his fund-raiser?  And that new DNC group called Priorities First that allows anonymous corporate donations just like the Republicans do and so totally embraces the wisdom of the Supreme Court Citizens United decision?

Oh.  Never mind.

My Barack Obama.Con:  "Cmon Baby, Just Try and Light My Fire"

(PS: Kate Madison left a comment on the Messina Missive under the Breitbart Hoax post, below.  She was actually awake when she got the 2:35 a.m. email, titled "Something Happened".  Nothing like getting an email in the middle of the night with the subject "Something Happened" --  I was like, "who died?".  Anyway, read Kate's comment. It says it all.)

(Correction:  Kate lives in Oregon, PDST, so she got her Messina email at 11:35 p.m., not the middle of the night as I previously "misspoke".  I did not mean to imply that Kate was staring at her computer in the middle of the night.  I, on the other hand, occasionally do get up in the middle of the night just to check my email. I probably need help.)

Oh fuck. You had me going for a minute.

And this...
Is anyone else tired of progressive bloggers that have 1001 excuses why scrambling for anonymous corporate donors is OK when done by Democrats? You know, you're "naive" if you oppose it. You're just concerned with ideological purity.

Exactly. Obama will be all crafty. He'll take all this money and once he's reelected-- In your face corporatocracy! Single payer time! Let's get real with financial reform! Banksters on trial! The ol' bait and switch. Oh wait he's done the bait and switch before.
Who's the naive one?

Nice site you have here. I read your comment on Gail Collin's piece in the New York Times regarding Newt the Hoot Gingrich. You nailed it.

All the best,

Sorry I punked everyone for about 20 seconds. And Tom, Noot the Hewt is just too easy, a sitting duck with an oversized head. I like your blog too! I linked to it on my Rog Bloll, so everybody visit. It is a better hoot than Noot, especially the post about Dick Cheney starring in My Fair Lady. We all need laughs and plenty of em.

My first thought as I started to read was, "Show me you are sincere by ditching Geithner and replacing him with Elizabeth Warren!" What a SCAM! I don't know why the Obama campaign even bothers all they care about is their corporate donors. I wonder what percentage of Obama's 2008 campaign dollars actually came from ordinary people.

Jim, Barack, and their ilk really think we are stupid don't they?

Where is my knight (knightess) in shining armour to challenge Obama in the primary?

I really did get this in the middle of a rather sleepless night (CDT) and left a message to you along with Kate. I also responded to Messina and hope someone reads mine, Kate's and any others. Do they think we are blind, deaf, and unread?

Just before that email came in I was reading the NYT piece on health care profits that are soaring even as people defer care. Some group apparently slammed the comments because there were 136 in no time with almost all using the words single payer or Medicare for all in the text. I wish it truly was a groundswell of "seeing the light at last", but that might be a bit naive.

Hey, I finally got this blog to use my real name (I think, will see in a minute)!

Hi Janet,
Yes indeed, you scooped everybody. You have to wonder about this guy Messina's mental health, sending out this crap in the middle of the night like that. I was reading his email with my first sip of coffee and almost gagged. I thought at first I was getting a review of that old Joseph Heller novel "Something Happened." What the heck could have happened? I still don't know. Does he realize what a lying liar he just proved himself to be? He promises to supply endless fodder for our blogs and letters, that's for sure!

Ah, Janet! I will miss Turnipseed. It is such a creative name! And, as I recall, you always self-identified at the end of your posts.

I see you're from New Paltz. I love that town and go there often! (It is just down the road from me - I am in Goshen in Orange County). I will be sure to add you as a link as well - before the day is out, I promise.

All the best,

Tom

One more thing: Have you a Facebook Page? If you do can you send me a link to it? And if you don't you might think about getting one. You would not believe the number of readers I have amassed via FB - thousands of them. And this site should be read!

All the best,

Tom

I will think about getting a facebook page if the company ever goes public and they make it less commercial. As it is now, Goldman Sachs has a stake in it, with only its wealthiest clientele being given "investment opportunities." Another bit of news that just came out was Facebook mounting a smear campaign against Google (which hosts this free blog)accusing it of privacy breaches.
Last but not least, I have a thing about nouns being used as verbs, as in I am afraid not enough people would "friend" me and then what if the people who friended me suddenly defriended me? I would be so crushed.
But thanks for saying this site should be read.
